No one wants bugs in their house. The mere thought of creepy crawlies coming out of the woodwork during the night or while you are away is enough to make anyone's skin crawl. Cockroaches might be the worst of the worst. They are hard to catch, nocturnal and there's never just one. If you are worried about a cockroach infestation in your home, there are 3 important warning signs you need to be on the lookout for.

Daytime Sightings

Since cockroaches are nocturnal, daytime sightings are rare. If they are happening, you have a serious problem. Cockroaches don't like to be seen, heard from or noticed. When you have a severe infestation, they are bound to slip out of their tight hiding spaces during the day in search of food or more comfortable housing. If you noticed small, brownish-black bugs with an elongated body, six legs and two antennae, then you are likely dealing with a severe infestation of cockroaches.

Feces and Casings

Like any living thing, cockroaches leave behind waste, primarily feces and casings from hatched eggs. The casings resemble that of a small, tan translucent shell. Unfortunately one casing doesn't equate to one cockroach. The casings, sometimes referred to as oothecae, can hold many eggs within their shells. Once hatched, the casing is left behind while the roaches join the infestation nest.

Their feces looks a lot like slightly larger black pepper pellets. However, the larger the cockroach, the larger the pellet will be. Cockroaches leave behind feces and casings in high traffic areas. If you begin to notice feces and casings in certain areas of your home, you have cockroaches using that section of your home as a route to scavenge for food and water.

Stench

A single cockroach won't leave behind a stench. A nest of cockroaches is another story. When their forces combine, cockroaches emit a terrible oily and musty smell. If you can smell cockroaches in any area of your home, your infestation is substantial and should be taken very seriously. The stench radiating off cockroaches can permeate food and fabric that falls in the higher traffic areas cockroaches use when searching for food.

If you are beginning to see signs of cockroach infestation, immediate action is a must. Cockroaches reproduce like rabbits so it doesn't take long for a small problem to turn into an enormous infestation. Don't let your home fall victim to these creepy, crawly creatures. Contact a professional pest company, like Garrie Pest Control, immediately if you notice any of the warning signs listed above.
